Charm

Dr. Pinmanee (Charm) Boontheung is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She came to UCLA in the spring of 2003 after completing her PhD in chemistry at Adelaide University, Adelaide, Australia under the tutelage of Professor John Bowie. At Adelaide, Charm's research focused on the isolation and mass spectrometry-based identification of neuropeptides from the Australian tammar wallaby, the brush-tailed rock wallaby, and the yellow-footed rock wallaby. In addition, she isolated and identified of peptides from Australian tree frogs and developed methods for solid-phase peptide synthesis of tyrosine sulfate-containing peptides.

At UCLA, Charm's research involves the general area of proteomics and mass spectrometry for protein characterization for measuring differences in protein expression. Gel electrophoresis (1D and 2D), MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, and LC-MS/MS are among the many tools Charm has utilized for her work.

She received her BS degree in Pharmacy from Rangsit University, Bangkok, Thailand, and an MS degree in Chemistry from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia (Dr. Patrick Perlmutter). Charm enjoys drinking lots of strong coffee and taking short trips to the state of Oklahoma (for some strange reason).
